Remember those scramble nets we posted about at the start of January? Well we have finally finished hand making all 21 of them and they are now in use around lakes at a gold mine in South Australia. The nets are fixed at the top and are in place to assist people in getting out of the lake whether they are in there for work purposes or just fell in. It was a big job to hand make these nets but we got there in the end!

The mining industry is one of Australia’s biggest employers with thousands of workers living and working on sites far away from home often in remote locations. Many workers will stay for weeks and months on end and aside from rolling around in the dust there isn’t much to do in the Australian Outback as you can see in the photos below! At Advanced Nets and Ropes we were asked to design and create a netted sports system for use on mine sites in order to give workers somewhere to keep active and have fun when not working. This particular installation features artificial turf, an artificial cricket wicket and is fully enclosed sides and top by tensioned netting in order to provide an area to play indoor cricket whilst outside (the tensioned net acts similar to a wall when hit by a ball). Similar to our indoor cricket installations, entry is via a high quality zipped net door. The finished net structure is permanent and is therefore designed to withstand all weather conditions. The netting is UV protected to the maximum level possible without degrading the quality of the net, in order to protect it against the harsh Australian sun and make it long lasting (why is this important?).
Have a look at the finished sports netting structure in the photos below or click here to look at some of the other multi-use sports and cricket practice net installations we have completed. Are you after something custom or a bit different? Advanced Nets & Ropes have completed some of Australia's largest and most complicated netting projects... We finish jobs that others can't! Visit the Challenge Us page for more information There is only 1 way to make these scramble nets and that is by hand! We have 21 of these large nets to make which will then be placed around the edge of a lake in order to give people something to use to climb out should they fall in. You can see the completed nets in use in this post. Here you can see our installation of custom netting for an indoor school sports hall. This net installation protects the building, lights, fixtures and fittings from damage. Fixed or Retractable sports hall systems are custom designed and manufactured to suit the needs of the venue and the sports being played. Find out more about our multiple use sports netting here http://www.advancednets.com.au/multi-use-sports-arenas.html We also install surround and perimeter netting to keep balls in the desired area and prevent strays without obscuring views. Protect spectators and fans from injury whilst also protecting your pocket from the expense of smashed windows, dented cars, broken objects and insurance claims. http://www.advancednets.com.au/surround--perimeter-nets.html The UV levels in Australia are some of the highest in the world. This causes netting, in particular polyethylene netting, to degrade over as little as a year. This means that the netting will break as easily as pulling it apart with your hands as you can see in the video below. Once the netting reaches the level where it can easily break by hand there is no point in repairing it, instead the netting will need to be replaced. This can become an expensive task when you need to replace something like a tennis net or soccer net every 2 years but imagine having to replace an entire multi-purpose sports system or worse… Imagine that because of UV damage, a fall arrest safety net did not function when needed leading to a workplace injury or even a death?
To protect against UV degradation ultra violet inhibitors are added during manufacture at the point where the net is turned into a yarn. These inhibitors have been developed and improved over time and provide a greatly increased lifespan for the netting. In Australia, this is especially important since the UV levels here are some of the highest in the world... We cannot do anything to stop the UV hitting the nets but we can do something to extend their life. Both Advanced Nets & Ropes and SecureaKat products and installations use maximum UV inhibitors where possible to extend the life of the net and you DO NOT PAY ANY MORE money for your finished installation. We believe that we create the highest quality netting installations in Australia therefore it is our pride and reputation at stake if our netting does not perform as intended for extended periods of time. In Australia, the polyethylene netting we use for our installations has been in use for 10 years and is still functioning today without degradation. Contact us for more information. Our experience in netting lets us create the best possible, long lasting solution for you, whatever your netting needs. And don't forget that we love a challenge! www.advancednets.com.au www.secureakat.com.au Rescued cat wins the SecureaKat trophy for best domestic kitten at the Royal Adelaide Show 2011.8/11/2011 With our other company "SecureaKat" we install cat enclosures and cat runs throughout Australia. We also support many local cat shows including sponsoring the Best Domestic Kitten category at the Royal Adelaide Show 2011. Garfield was adopted from 'Help Save The Furry Ones" animal rescue shelter in Ingle Farm, South Australia. Here is an interview with the owner and SecureaKat on Adelaide's 5AA radio station with Amanda Blair. Some of the topics discussed include the number of cats in need of homes, desexing cats and dogs, people dumping their cats and where you can go if you want to adopt a cat from a shelter. http://www.secureakat.com.au http://www.facebook.com/secureakat http://www.twitter.com/secureakat http://www.facebook.com/pages/help-save-the-furry-ones/127462437325166 Here at Advanced Nets we do quite a bit of work for animal shelters and other environmental uses as you can see here http://www.advancednets.com.au/environmental-nets.html. Recently, the Minton Farm Animal Rescue Centre in South Australia www.mintonfarm.com.au contacted us looking for us to design and install a netted enclosure for Miru, a wedge tailed eagle who was brought to them after its mother was shot. The enclosure is large enough to allow Miru to walk and fly around inside. You can read about the latest happenings at the centre here. The refuge has emerged from a community need for animal and bird rescue and rehabilitation. The project funding relies entirely on volunteers and donations to operate. Your kind support will help to improve the quality of life for 100's of native animals and birds for future generations to enjoy, not just as extinct exhibits in museum. Whilst we were inside the enclosure Miru put on a bit of a show for us as you can see in the videos below... Sometimes we have people come into the factory with random one off requests... Caroline came to get some netting for an art project featuring fish and a half naked man lying on a wooden floor. She was kind enough to send us some signed photos from her finished project which you can see below.
