We are currently in the process of making one of the largest single nets we have ever constructed.

The video below shows hand making nets for the new Jason Gillespie cricket practice centre being installed at the Ice Arena in Adelaide. When finished this will be one of Australias biggest and best indoor cricket practice centres and we will post photos and a video when its finished.

At Advanced Nets and Ropes we hand rig all of our nets made in the factory. There are a number of reasons for this; it gives a better finish with more accurate spacing. The materials used are also stronger meaning that the finished net product will last longer.

In the photos below you can see the difference. The first photo shows a machine rigged net whilst the second photo shows our hand rigged net. 

This is a fully enclosed netted sports area installed in a customers back yard and custom built to their requirements.

The sports netting features a heavy duty double zipped entrance the same as we install in our professional indoor cricket nets and is also tensioned perfectly to stop balls but not have them fling back at full speed.

Remember those scramble nets we posted about at the start of January? Well we have finally finished hand making all 21 of them and they are now in use around lakes at a gold mine in South Australia.

The nets are fixed at the top and are in place to assist people in getting out of the lake whether they are in there for work purposes or just fell in.

It was a big job to hand make these nets but we got there in the end!

The mining industry is one of Australia’s biggest employers with thousands of workers living and working on sites far away from home often in remote locations. Many workers will stay for weeks and months on end and aside from rolling around in the dust there isn’t much to do in the Australian Outback as you can see in the photos below!

At Advanced Nets and Ropes we were asked to design and create a netted sports system for use on mine sites in order to give workers somewhere to keep active and have fun when not working. This particular installation features artificial turf, an artificial cricket wicket and is fully enclosed sides and top by tensioned netting in order to provide an area to play indoor cricket whilst outside (the tensioned net acts similar to a wall when hit by a ball). Similar to our indoor cricket installations, entry is via a high quality zipped net door. 

The finished net structure is permanent and is therefore designed to withstand all weather conditions. The netting is UV protected to the maximum level possible without degrading the quality of the net, in order to protect it against the harsh Australian sun and make it long lasting (why is this important?).

There is only 1 way to make these scramble nets and that is by hand! We have 21 of these large nets to make which will then be placed around the edge of a lake in order to give people something to use to climb out should they fall in.

The UV levels in Australia are some of the highest in the world. This causes netting, in particular polyethylene netting, to degrade over as little as a year. This means that the netting will break as easily as pulling it apart with your hands as you can see in the video below.

Once the netting reaches the level where it can easily break by hand there is no point in repairing it, instead the netting will need to be replaced. This can become an expensive task when you need to replace something like a tennis net every 2 years but imagine having to replace an entire multi-purpose sports system or worse… Imagine that because of UV damage, a fall arrest safety net did not function when needed leading to a workplace injury or even a death?

Ultra violet inhibitors are added during manufacture at the point where the net is turned into a yarn. These inhibitors have been developed and improved over time and provide a greatly increased lifespan for the netting.

Both Advanced Nets & Ropes and SecureaKat products and installations use maximum UV inhibitors where possible to extend the life of the net and you DO NOT PAY ANY MORE money for your finished installation. We believe that we create the highest quality netting installations in Australia therefore it is our pride and reputation at stake if our netting does not perform as intended for extended periods of time.

In Australia, the polyethylene netting we use has been in use for 10 years and is still functioning today without degradation.
